Position Summary
The U.S. Mission in Honduras is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Consular Assistant in the Consular Section. This position combines duty elements of the Immigrant Visa (IV), Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV), American Citizen Services (ACS), Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU), and Administrative Assistant functions. The incumbent supports every unit as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Accepts and reviews Immigrant Visa (IV) applications; confirms biographic information; captures biometric fingerprints and photographs; verifies applicant identity.
Manages Visas 92 cases involving travel documents for family members of asylees and refugees, in coordination with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); tracks Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) testing.
Loads and reviews Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) applications via the online DS-160 form through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC); processes complex visa categories and Diplomatic Note cases.
Prepares passport and citizenship cases for adjudication; interviews applicants; screens for fraud; assists U.S. citizens in distress and serves on Post's crisis management team.
Manages Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) records; serves as backup investigator for H-2 visa cases; liaises with Honduran prosecutors; advises on ineligibilities under Section 212(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
Provides administrative support to the Consul General (CG) and Deputy Consul General (DCG); serves as time and attendance clerk; coordinates travel through the E2 system; manages procurement and supply inventory.
Required Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in customer service and administrative work is required.
Education: Two years of college or university studies are required.
Language Skills (may be tested):
English: Fluent; speaking, reading & writing (may include ability to translate).
Spanish: Fluent; speaking, reading & writing (may include ability to translate).
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with legal Honduran documentation commonly encountered in consular operations (civil and court documents)
Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office suite
Ability to process large amounts of data accurately
Excellent customer service skills
Other Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam
