Role Overview: 

The Director of Programs (DoP) provides leadership to iDE Honduras and will manage the project teams. He/she collaborates with technical focal points of the respective program units at iDE’s Country Office based in Tegucigalpa. The DoP is responsible for the overall programmatic strategy across the entire country operation, ensuring strategic coherence and vision of the iDE Honduras country program through active participation in the development of the iDE Honduras Strategic Plan linked to the new iDE Global Strategy. 

Although the role will be based in Honduras and primarily involved in the Honduras program, the DoP will also have the capacity to offer advisory support for potential programmatic interventions in the LAC region, in line with the current iDE global expansion strategy. 

The DoP takes responsibility for the effective planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of iDE Honduras’ program delivery. Working with program teams, managers, and coordinators, the DoP maintains strategic donor relations in close collaboration with the Country Director and LAC Business Development Manager to support the execution of the resource mobilization strategy with current and potential donors. The DoP coordinates the monitoring, reporting, and technical documentation of program outcomes and directions, offering in-depth knowledge and contributions to lessons learned, case studies,and best practices to inform expansion and scaling opportunities. Reporting directly to the Country Director and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the DoP plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and impact of iDE Honduras.

Strategic Leadership & Program Management 

● Strategy Development: Develop, implement, and regularly update iDE Honduras’s programmatic strategy to enhance visibility and impact. ● Team Leadership: Lead program teams, providing technical guidance, and ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation.

● Alignment: Ensure all programs align with iDE’s vision and the country's priorities, adapting strategies as needed to respond to changing contexts and needs. Contribute to iDE Global's 10-year impact strategy by incorporating the perspectives and context of Honduras, and translating the global strategy into one that is effective in the local Honduran context. 

Donor Relations & Fundraising 

● Relationship Management: Manage strategic donor relationships, ensuring strong communication and engagement. 

● Resource Mobilization: Execute resource mobilization strategies, maintaining detailed donor intelligence profiles. 

● Partnership Development: Develop and maintain relationships with key donors, partners, and stakeholders to secure funding and support for programs. 

Project Monitoring & Learning 

● Site Visits: Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, build relationships, and ensure effective implementation. 

● Continuous Learning: Promote a culture of continuous learning and development, adapting programs to new challenges, and actively seeking opportunities to enhance interventions. 

● Evaluation: Implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure impact and inform decision-making. 

Reporting & Documentation 

● Report Writing: Guide the report-writing process to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely submission to donors. 

● Documentation: Document program successes, human-interest stories, lessons learned, and best practices for internal and external sharing. 

Team Management & Capacity Building 

● Leadership: Lead, manage, and coach the program team, fostering a culture of leadership and professional development. 

● Capacity Building: Identify and address capacity-building needs within the team to enhance performance and growth. 

Business Development & Proposal Leadership 

● Opportunity Identification: Collaborate with the business development unit to identify opportunities aligned with iDE’s strategic vision.

● Proposal Development: Lead the bid process, guide project opportunities, and participate in the development of high-quality proposals. 

● Partnership Building: Meet with partners and lead technical discussion for solicited and unsolicited proposals 

Inclusivity & Sensitivity 

● Vulnerable Groups: Ensure programs are sensitive to vulnerable groups, including gender considerations, and incorporate risk reduction strategies throughout the program lifecycle. 

● GESI: Promote and adhere to principles of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), integrating these principles into all aspects of program design and implementation. 

Financial Oversight & Compliance 

● Financial Management: Collaborate with the Finance and Admin Director to ensure effective financial management and compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies. 

● Grant Management: Monitor the overall financial integrity and grant management of the program, ensuring transparency and accountability. 

Integrity & Compliance 

● Standards Adherence: Adhere to and promote iDE's integrity standards, ensuring the program team follows logistics, procurement, HR, and finance protocols. 

● Audit & Compliance: Liaise with internal and external audit and compliance teams to ensure adherence to all relevant standards and regulations. 

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation 

● Representation: Represent iDE Honduras in relevant forums, networks, and strategic levels to promote the organization’s mission and values. 

● Participative Management: Establish a participative management environment, encouraging stakeholder engagement and collaboration.  

● Technical Oversight: Provide technical backstopping and oversight of projects to ensure they are implemented to a high standard. Liaise with other country offices and global HQ on technical work, ensuring adherence to the "do no harm" principle and helping our clients thrive.

Person Specification

Education & Certifications

● Master's degree with 10 years of experience or Bachelor's degree with 15 years of experience. 

● A Master's degree in International Relations, Agriculture Program Management, International Development, Social Science, or a related field. 

● A minimum of 10 years of management experience, with at least 5 years in managing a portfolio of programs in the development, livelihood, and agriculture sectors. 

● Proven experience in writing proposals and securing funding for programs. 

● Demonstrable experience in driving integrated advocacy, communications, and fundraising approaches to support program objectives. 

● Proven skills in leading strategic programming and planning processes to ensure program effectiveness. 

● Ability to thrive in a high-pressure and rapidly changing environment, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. 

● Strong teamwork skills, excellent communication abilities in a multicultural environment, and the capacity for participatory leadership. 

● Ability to provide mentorship and advisory support to the technical team. 

● Sensitivity to work in rural contexts and with women, youth, and ethnic groups.

● Knowledge of iDE’s multiple fields of expertise, including IPM, agriculture and non-agriculture value chains, livelihoods, market systems, governance, climate resilience, access to finance, WASH, gender and inclusion, and nutrition at an academic level. 

● Demonstrated experience in annual operational planning and providing advice to project coordinators for implementation. ● Experience working with MERL to achieve KPI indicators. ● Proven competencies and experience in representing the organization externally to key stakeholders, including multiple donors, foundations, local governments, and rural structures. ● Experience managing program systems and tools to oversee complex projects across different sectors and locations, as well as within consortiums. 

● Experience collaborating with national and local actors and contributing to the capacity building of national and local organizations in coordination and response. 

● Demonstrated experience in maintaining donor relations and adhering to donor policies. 

● Experience working with government stakeholders at all levels. ● Competence in resource mobilization and a working knowledge of meeting requirements for calls for proposals, including the relevant pre- and post-proposal procedures, and skills for adapting to different donor requirements and procedures for funding. 

● Strong experience in program quality, participatory monitoring, evaluation and learning (PMEAL), and program development. ● Uphold behavioral values and skills such as accountability, respect, diversity and inclusion, sustainability, entrepreneurship, team building, negotiation, conflict management, and collaboration. ● Strong writing skills to clearly formulate program and project proposals, plans, and reports. 

● Proficiency in using Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for effective documentation and communication.
