Position Summary:

The position is responsible for overseeing the Ophthalmic Technician Training program and managing the Community Health Worker Program. This position reports to the Director of Global Operations and Programs of Instituto Oftalmológico ACE Global Honduras. Direct reports include the Head of Clinical Training and Operations and the Community Health Workers (CHWs).


1. Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and promote the vision and ethos of ACE Honduras as a social enterprise dedicated to making eye care available to all Hondurans
  • Supervise the Head of Ophthalmic Technician Program 
  • Oversee the development of curricula
    • Oversee the coordination and scheduling of all aspects of training, including didactic and skills-based
    • Oversee the assessment and feedback process for trainees
    • Oversee the recruitment of new technician trainees 
  • Lead the Community Health Worker (CHW) Program
    • Recruit, train and equip community health worker leads
    • Support program expansion 
    • Manage the data collation from outreach activities
    • Use data to improve program effectiveness
    • Assist in the scheduling and coordination of outreach events 
  • Address and resolve any performance or behavior issues within the team, ensuring compliance with facility policies and patient care standards.
  • During TTT (Teaching Travel Teams) weeks, the Manager is fully present at SBJ, working hand in hand with the Head of Clinical Training and Operations to support all clinical, surgical, and operational aspects of patient care.

2. Training and Development:

  • When required by ACE Global and when budget allows, travel to conferences or on-site visits to further understanding of how similar programs run
  • Maintain connections and collaborations with partner organizations to continuously work towards program improvement

3. Operational and Administrative Duties:

  • Track the flow of patients from the CHW program into the Instituto Oftalmológico ACE Global Honduras system, tailoring outreach to improve this flow.
  • Train CHWs to monitor and track inventory of supplies, ensuring timely reordering of items and proper stock management.
  • Ensure compliance with all infection control policies and other regulatory requirements.
  • Work to develop and implement operational procedures to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient operations.
  • Assist in budgeting and managing the financial aspects of the program
  • Oversee the work of the Technician Trainer in data collection, program design and implementation, and compliance

4. Collaboration with Physicians and Staff:

  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated training programs and patient-centered care.
  • Along with the Technician Trainer, help to foster respectful communication throughout the Instituto Oftalmológico ACE Global Honduras system

Expectations of Skills & Abilities:

  • We are looking for a licensed physician (médico general or equivalent). Candidates with experience in community health, program management, or public health are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Strong English communication skills are required (B2 level or above). Candidates comfortable working in an international, English-speaking environment are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, executive staff, and physicians.
  • Sufficient knowledge of ophthalmic procedures, equipment, and best practices in both the clinic and surgical settings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, ensure proper staffing, and maintain high-quality patient care.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and infection control standards.
  • Proficiency in medical health records systems and basic office software.
  • This position will be performed in a clinical and surgical environment
  • Some flexibility in hours may be required depending on the clinic and surgical schedule.
  • The role involves direct interaction with patients, surgical teams, community health workers, community leaders, and other healthcare professionals.
