Basic Function: The incumbent will provide support to the Protocol Assistant and to the Executive Office in all protocol duties and events hosted by the Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM). Such duties include updating diplomatic and government lists, coordinating internal meetings by preparing access requests, setting up conference rooms and escorting visitors, welcoming mid-level visitors who attend events and meetings organized by the Executive Office, sending out invitations and obtaining RSVPs for large events; organizing the files in the Protocol Office, preparing correspondence, and serving as back up in the Protocol Assistant’s absence.
1. Experience: At least two years of progressively responsible secretarial and clerical experience is required.
2. Education: At least two years of university studies is required.
3. Language: Fluent Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required. Fluent Speaking/Reading/Writing in Spanish is required. With
translating and interpreting capabilities. (This may be tested)
4. Knowledge: The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of the structure of the Government of Honduras and the Diplomatic
Corps. The incumbent must know well how the structure of the Government is formed, the chain of command that needs to be followed when addressing high and medium level GOH officials, and the protocol of the GOH to work and advise accordingly about formalities and courtesies. The incumbent must have a substantive knowledge of the country and its people, especially with key cabinet level GOH officials, diplomats, and academics, civil, religious, and business leaders as well as organizations that will seek contact with the Ambassador.
5. Skills and Abilities:
-Must have high level of understanding of local personalities, and local customs and ability to advise the Ambassador and DCM on all Protocol-related and local contact matters including appropriate guests, responses, and interaction with contacts.
-Must be able to work under pressure, producing high quality end products.
-Must have the ability to maintain and establish contacts at all levels within the public and private sector.
-Must have ability to obtain material from varied sources and prepare reports of a factual nature, precisely and accurately.
-Must be able to translate from Spanish into English and vice-versa.
-Must possess and practice tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
-Must possess advanced writing and drafting skills as well as excellent command of verbal communications.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
-Must possess strong organizational skills to be able to coordinate large events.
