GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAMME/GOAL

Established in 1977, GOAL is an international humanitarian agency, with a team of 2,400 personnel, dedicated to alleviating the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Currently registered in 14 of the world’s most vulnerable countries, GOAL delivers a wide range of humanitarian and development programmes, ranging from humanitarian relief in disaster situations, to focusing on nutrition, food security, and building greater resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

The Programme Innovation Lab is a dynamic and collaborative unit established by GOAL to foster innovation emerging from its programs and to promote this within the organization and the broader humanitarian and development community. This will be an open space that facilitates collaboration and partnership between innovation champions within GOAL and key external strategic partners.

The aim of the Programme Innovation Lab is to expand support for GOAL's global program staff and innovations while continuing GOAL's innovations in resilience. The Programme Innovation Lab has a steering committee composed of senior staff from across the organization. The Programme Innovation Lab is led by the President of Global Program Design, Innovation and Business Development. Additionally, it includes a support team of three individuals to provide assistance to both emerging and more developed innovations within GOAL's programs. This team includes a Programme Innovation Advisor, a Communications Coordinator, and a Graphic Designer.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The Visual Communications Specialist at the GOAL Innovation Lab Program aims to support the team in promoting and disseminating GOAL's innovations both internally and externally. The primary focus is on assisting the team in creating support materials for innovations in GOAL, especially those that facilitate the understanding and application of resilience measurement and analysis tools, such as the Resilience for Social Systems (R4S) Approach and the Analysis of Resilience of Communities to Disaster (ARC-D) Toolkit, along with other innovation lab streamwork-related innovations. Additionally, the Visual Communications Specialist actively contributes to enhancing knowledge and skills of internal and external audience related to program innovations. The Visual Communications Specialist will be based in Honduras. The role will involve close coordination with the Lab’s Communications Coordinator, and Programme Innovation Advisor.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES / MAIN FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with GOAL Lab Communications team to create visual materials that support the promotion of innovations, including resilience measurement and analysis tools like R4S and ARC-D, as well as other health-related innovations. 
  • Create GOAL documents and publications following the organization's style and brand guidelines, review and make adjustments as necessary, and deliver final versions according to agreed-upon timelines. 
  • As requested, participate in the development and implementation of institutional communication strategies, plans and materials for program innovations. 
  • Collaborate with the Lab team in developing training and promotion of knowledge and skills related to program innovations among the team and stakeholders. 
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of GOAL's innovations in coordination with the Lab team.
  • Assist in organizing internal and external training workshops on GOAL's innovations.
  • Lead the development of high-quality animations, video materials.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Any other activity related to the programme of works for the Innovation Lab and GOAL Global, as directed by line manager.

     

Minimum Required Profile:

Academic Background:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Multimedia Arts, or a related field.

Professional Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience working in visual communications, graphic design, or related roles.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Adobe Premier, or other video editing and animation software.
  • Experience in creating visual materials for promoting and disseminating innovations, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing explanatory animations. (Please ask the candidate to provide samples).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing materials that adhere to organizational branding and style guidelines.
  • A strong sense of mission and appreciation of the aims and objectives of GOAL.
  • Intermediate level in written and spoken English.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong visual communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear and engaging visuals.
  • Excellent graphic design skills, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Knowledge of current design trends and best practices in visual communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

  • Collaboration and teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve common goals.

 

COORDINATION

The professional will report to the area coordinators within the Innovation Lab and coordinate with other specialists within GOAL.

RESOURCES

For the development of activities, GOAL will provide the necessary equipment to carry out the project activities.
